Have you earned your stripes or just gone dottie?

After last seasons repeated rendition of the breton top, I thought I had had my fill of stripes. I had overindulged in the slim summer staple so when I saw the trend this year I was surprised to find myself craving the pattern all over again. This year's delivery by Prada, Isabel Marant and Marc Jacobs was bold, bright and vibrant, not a hint of the French Rivera feel from last summer, there was new decadence, a richness to the bands and I was excited. With stripes making a bold statement this season it seems appropriate that their pattern adversary, the spot, has also made a come back, with the fashion world seeming to mimic Cadbury's latest chocolate campaign. I found myself pulled towards Moschino, Giles and  Jaeger London's creations, from polka dots to big, loud obnoxious blots there is something whimsical and retro about the spots this year, the perfect antidote to the thick bright bands. So this season, which indulgence will choose? Will you have your cake and eat it too, combining stripes and spots in an inspiring juxtaposition of opposites?

Bikinis

The fifty's vibe of the dottie bikini is so feminine, the top creates great shape and accentuates an ample chest. The bandeau top and low rise bottoms of the stripes help to create curves on a boyish figure.

Dresses

I loved both these Topshop Boutique Pieces. The bands of colour look almost like an aztec pattern, which I cant get enough of these days and the midi length is so on trend, it's very beach chic. The polka dot dress remind me of something that Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz may have worn. I like the idea of wearing this dress on a city break with a thin blue belt and some wickery looking sandals.

Skirts

The Reiss striped skirt seems more appropriate for evening while the floaty Boutique by Jaeger skirt is perfect for running around during the day.

Jumpsuits/Beach coverups

I love the retro 70's pattern of this Missoni number, this piece would look great on tall lean frames. If you are venturing abroad the Tucker playsuit is light and flimsy to combat the extreme heat of the tropics.

Shorts

I love the opposite-ness of these two pieces, the slouched, relaxed style of the GAR-DE pair against the pretty, girly Asos shorts. While normally I lean towards more relaxed designs, my style can be pretty schizophrenic; I couldn't help but fall in love with these hot pants just a little bit.

Accessories

Accessories are a great way to embellish an outfit without going all out.

So that's it for stripes and spots, I'm leaning towards stripes personally but I may dabble with a polka dot dress before the summer is out.

Sorry about the over extended hiatus from the blog, finals and all that. I promise you may just be sick of me by the end of the summer. Until next time... x
